DENTAL CROWNS ARE A FIXED PROSTHETIC RESTORATION
Crowns and Bridges
Dental crowns are a fixed prosthetic restoration which involve reducing the existing filling and tooth structure and covering this with the chosen material (composite, porcelain, or metal). This replaces the entire external surface of the tooth. All our crowns are bonded which helps to prevent them from being displaced.
At Northshore Dental Care we recognize that crowning a tooth is not a first line treatment for a tooth, however it may be necessary for the following reasons:
- The tooth is extremely worn, broken, or affected by decay.
- Teeth which are affected by cracks.
- Teeth which have had root canal treatment have a better long-term outlook when restored with a crown.
- In patients who clench and grind their teeth causing overloading injuries.
- Some cosmetic cases require the use of crowns.
Dental bridges
A dental bridge is a fixed prosthetic restoration which is used to replace missing teeth. This is achieved using one or more crowns which supports a prosthetic (false) tooth. Bridges are high strength and highly aesthetic restorations which can be a great, long-term solution to replace missing teeth. If you are considering replacing missing teeth, a bridge could be a great solution. During consultation for any prospective bridge Dr Strachan will assess you to determine whether a bridge is a suitable option. He will also discuss any other viable options to help ensure you get the best result possible.
