Gum disease is the most frequent cause of tooth loss, bad breath, and bleeding and swollen gums. Periodontics is the diagnosis and treatment of gum disease.
There is compelling evidence linking gum disease and heart disease and general poor health. Good gum health is the foundation of dental health. Healthy pink gums are achieved through good oral hygiene – regular brushing and massaging your gums and flossing between your teeth.
Your dentist will assist you in the treatment of chronic gum disease and maintenance of your oral hygiene to avoid gum disease.

Gum disease is a chronic progressive disease and can result in tooth loss if left untreated. Dr Strachan has a special commitment to gum disease and will manage most gum problems for you, however in some circumstances like chronic advanced gum disease we will refer you to a Specialist Periodontist.
We are aware of the costs associated with a Specialist Periodontist, and referral will only be suggested if outside our considerable periodontal expertise.
